ABOUT ME
The Queen of Everything
I haven't always been confident. Sometimes I flounder to understand myself. Hence, the Queen of Everything. I discovered that simply telling people that I was the QOE was enough to bolster my self-esteem. It also fits with my love of the quirky.

I was one of five children in a busy family, and learned at an early age that we all have our quirks. It was okay to be different, and I am. I talk about the elephants in the room. I'm introverted, direct (sometimes to the point of making more polite folks squirm) and I don't always understand the nuances of social exchanges. I am also intelligent, independent, intuitive, creative and generous. I hope that makes up for the occasional gaffe.

I am a pragmatic optimist. I was diagnosed with an incurable illness in my mid-20s, and was told that I probably wouldn't live to be 40. Perhaps I shouldn't have kids, and maybe I should apply for disability support. Without the internet to terrify me, I decided to just carry on with my life. What happens, happens. I am now well into my sixties. Two children, a long demanding career in a field I felt passionate about (human rights and the administration of justice), two grandchildren with another on the way. Life is good.

I don't worry about others' opinions of me. Except for my family. Then I care a lot. My family is the centre of my universe. My grandbabies are the sun I orbit. The day my husband and I met, we talked about how much we each looked forward to being a grandparent. Now we revel in time with our kids and grandkids, and are so grateful to be included in their lives.

I am the Grandma Queen.
