Be careful what you wish for...

I like learning new things. Really. However, sometimes I am a bit too ambitious and end up with the mind-bending task of figuring out too many things at once.

I wanted to learn a new weave structure commonly called Crackle. I started studying it and down the rabbit hole I went. I have now finished this polychrome crackle four shaft scarf. It's beautiful. It was complicated. And frustrating. I made too many decisions without enough thought and ended up with a three shuttle weave with colour and treadling changes every 3 or 4 centimeters. That's weaver-speak for failure to keep things simple.

I have failed to keep things simple in other areas, too. My entry into the Sooke Fine Arts show has been accepted for exhibition. This also allows me to put items in their gift shop. The 30% commission isn't bad, and over 9000 people go through the show in the ten days it is open. The problem? Sooke is a 6 1/2 hour roundtrip from home. So, I won't be doing any artist talks or demonstrations. And, the final weekend of the show, when the artists' event is on, overlaps the Filberg Festival in Comox. The guild I belong to has a booth in the Filberg show. Commission is only 20%, but if I wish to sell things I must put in two shifts in the booth.

So - two shows that overlap. Both need inventory. They have different inventory systems. The decision to participate in both shows has made my life pretty busy and complicated. It is kind of a nice problem to have, but it is still a problem. I always wished for validation as an artist. Now I have it. Don't stop wishing and setting goals. Just be prepared for the consequences.\\\\
