This is me, enjoying dinner on a cruise ship in the Mediterranean last June. A lovely trip. We had a pleasant July. Then everything went sideways.
What seemed like a cold in August turned into pneumonia. I had been coughing for weeks. The first antibiotic didn't resolve the pneumonia. The second antibiotic got rid of the pneumonia, but triggered a bacterial infection in my gut. It is February 2025, and I've finally finished the medication to eradicate the infection. Fingers crossed that it doesn't come back. I still cough.
I am determined to have a better year. I have started planning an overhaul of the front yard; expanding my flower beds to cover much of the lawn. We call it a lawn because it is usually green and has some grass. It's mostly moss, weeds and bare spots in one area, so that's getting buried under a garden.
So far, I have two trips planned for this year, in addition to the two little getaways I've already enjoyed. We are going on another small ship cruise in September and we have planned a trip to Seattle in April. The latter is causing me some concern as the political situation in the US unfolds. The trip is prepaid and non-refundable. Who knew we'd be threatened with annexation? Such nonsense.
I am also weaving again, after a long absence from the studio. The monthly meeting of the weavers' group is at my home tomorrow. I haven't seen much of the guild members. Recovering from a prolonged illness is an exercise in patience, optimism and caution. Not overdoing things, not taking health risks, taking time for self-care.
The snow is slowly melting, temperatures are creeping up, and the sun is shining. Things will improve, as they always do.
